Just trotting around... 
And standing around... 
And bucking around... 
And running around... 
Over trees... 
Through the snow... 
Now that all of that energy is out of his system, how about some more training. I threw a couple of grain bags out on the ground. The wind was blowing them around and Charlie was checking them out. Regardless of his mom's behavior, he is fearless. 
Then I got out the empty canvas top bag for the pack saddle. I let him sniff it on the ground and play with it, then on his back it went. With the bags resting on his back, not even tied down, he walked around as if he had been doing it his entire life (all one month of his life). Charlie has such an incredible gentle temperament and is so smart and kind. Nothing scares him, he is cautious, but curious, and in our eyes, Perfect.

Charlie has found his new calling in life. Ryan's pack mule (and riding mule) in the making 
04/20/2008 Charlie and Cricket meet Marla. Charlie is confused..."are you my mother?" He actually was quite curious, much to his mother's dismay. Marla was great with Charlie and very tolerant of Cricket. Cricket was annoyed, but got used to Marla pretty quickly. Marla is a "go-with-the-flow" kind of horse! 
Josey did NOT go with the flow and after several arguments with Cricket and laps around the pasture I thought it best to separate them again.
